Why See Dr. Gelber for BMAC?
The value is not simply access to BMAC. It is having an orthopedic surgeon determine whether BMAC fits the problem, what tissue should be treated, and where the treatment should be placed.
Dr. Gelber reviews your symptoms, examination, and imaging to identify the structure causing the problem. He then considers which treatment fits that structure and what you want to get back to doing.
If BMAC makes sense, he can explain why and where he would direct treatment. If PRP, MFAT, rehabilitation, or surgery is a better choice, he will tell you that too.

What Is BMAC?
BMAC stands for bone marrow aspirate concentrate. It is made by collecting a small amount of your own bone marrow and concentrating it for treatment. It contains cells and other components that may help improve pain and function in selected orthopedic problems.
PRP comes from your blood; MFAT comes from your fat tissue. These treatments may overlap in what they treat, but they are not interchangeable.
The right treatment is not always the most invasive. The important question is which option best fits your diagnosis, where you are now, and where you want to be.
How Might BMAC Be Used for Your Problem?
For selected patients with knee, hip, or shoulder arthritis, Dr. Gelber may direct BMAC into the bone. This is called an intraosseous approach—meaning “into the bone.”
For selected rotator cuff tears, treatment may be directed at the involved tendon or tear region.
These examples show why the treatment target matters. The approach depends on the tissue involved and what Dr. Gelber is trying to treat.

That depends on your diagnosis, imaging, how advanced the problem is, what you have already tried, and your activity goals. With more advanced arthritis, Dr. Gelber can help you weigh what BMAC might offer against whether joint replacement would better meet your goals.
If you choose BMAC, he will explain how it will be collected and placed, what recovery involves, and how rehabilitation fits your plan. Soreness, swelling, or bruising can occur.
