Hip Pain Does Not Always Start in the Hip Joint
Pain around the hip can come from the joint, surrounding tendons and muscles, the lower back, or more than one structure. The location of the pain and the movements that bring it on can provide useful clues.
A clear diagnosis matters because arthritis, a labral problem, tendon pain, and referred back pain are treated differently.
Start With the Right Question
Dr. Gelber reviews your symptoms, examination, activity goals, and what you have already tried. X-rays or MRI may help when they answer a specific question.
The goal is not simply to label the problem. It is to understand what is limiting you and whether the joint, surrounding tissue, strength, or movement needs attention.
What Might Treatment Include?
Treatment depends on the diagnosis and may include activity changes, targeted rehabilitation, strength and movement work, medication, or an injection when appropriate.
For selected problems, PRP or another regenerative treatment may be discussed. Some structural hip problems are better treated surgically. When surgery is appropriate, Dr. Gelber can explain the diagnosis and help you understand the next step.
Feeling Better Is Not the Same as Being Ready
As pain improves, the next question is whether you have regained the strength, movement, and capacity needed for walking, hiking, travel, workouts, or sport.
Rehabilitation and reassessment help bridge the gap between symptom relief and a confident return to activity.
Why See Dr. Gelber for Hip Pain?
Dr. Gelber is an orthopedic surgeon who evaluates surgical, nonsurgical, and regenerative options. That perspective matters when symptoms could be coming from several different structures.
The goal is to choose the treatment that best fits the diagnosis and what you want to get back to—not to force every patient into the same plan.
For arthritis-related concerns, see osteoarthritis. If knee arthritis is also affecting your activities, see alternatives to knee replacement.
