PRP Injections in Los Angeles

Could PRP help you get back to what you love?

Joint or tendon pain can take you away from golf, hiking, workouts, and everyday activities you enjoy.

PRP could change that.

If you are looking for a nonsurgical option that may avoid or delay surgery, PRP may be worth discussing.

PRP can be an effective option for the right joint or tendon problem. Your goal—and Dr. Gelber’s goal—is to help you hurt less, move better, and get back to the things you care about.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is made from your own blood and is designed to support your body’s natural healing response. It is prepared in the office from a simple blood draw.

PRP is then injected into the joint or tissue being treated under ultrasound guidance.

Who may benefit?

PRP can be used for a variety of problems including knee arthritis, persistent tendonitis such as tennis elbow, certain meniscus tears, and selected rotator cuff tears—especially when your goal is to improve pain and function and avoid or delay surgery, including joint replacement or rotator cuff repair.

During your evaluation, Dr. Gelber will review your symptoms, examination, imaging and what you have already tried. Then you can decide together if PRP is right for you.

Why see Dr. Gelber for PRP?

As an orthopedic surgeon who also specializes in regenerative treatment, Dr. Jonathan Gelber can look at the whole picture. If PRP makes sense, he can explain why. If something else is likely to work better, he will tell you that too.

The goal is to help you choose the treatment that gives you the best chance of getting back to what you want to do.

It is important to know that not all PRP treatments are the same. Different practices may use different PRP preparations and techniques. How it is prepared and where it is placed can make a difference. Dr. Gelber uses ultrasound guidance to target the area being treated and adjusts the approach based on the specific problem.

What should you expect?

PRP is done in the office with a blood draw, preparation and an injection. You will receive instructions on how to prepare and what to do afterward.

Expect some temporary soreness. Swelling or bruising can also occur. Improvement usually takes weeks to months, and rehab helps you rebuild the strength needed to return to activity.

Some patients improve more than others. PRP does not guarantee relief or mean you will never need surgery. Injection risks include bleeding, infection and injury to nearby tissue. Dr. Gelber will discuss these with you before treatment.

At follow-up, the question is more than “Does it hurt less?” We also want to know what you are getting back to doing.
