Why See Dr. Gelber for MFAT?
The value is more than access to MFAT. It is having an orthopedic surgeon determine what is causing your pain, whether MFAT fits the problem, and where treatment should be placed.
Dr. Gelber reviews your symptoms, examination, imaging, and what you have already tried. Your activity goals help guide the decision.
If MFAT makes sense, he can explain why. If PRP, BMAC, rehabilitation, or surgery is a better choice, he will tell you that too.

What Is MFAT?
MFAT stands for microfragmented adipose tissue. It is made from a small amount of your own fat tissue that is processed into smaller pieces for an injection into the area being treated.
Whether MFAT is worth considering depends on your imaging, how advanced the problem is, your prior treatment, and what you want to get back to doing. These symptoms and goals also help Dr. Gelber explain when surgery may offer a better path.
When Might MFAT Be Considered?
For selected patients with knee, hip, or shoulder arthritis, MFAT may be injected into the joint.
For selected rotator cuff tears, MFAT may be injected directly into the tendon tear.
What Should You Expect?
The harvest area is numbed with local anesthesia. A small amount of fat is then aspirated, processed, and prepared for injection into the area being treated.
Before treatment, Dr. Gelber will explain what recovery involves, the possible benefits and risks, and how rehabilitation fits your plan.
